Asheville Watchdog reporter Sally Kestin was recently honored with a first place Public Service Award in the online division of the North Carolina Press Association annual journalism awards, for her multi-part investigative series Equity Erased.
The Public Service Award “recognizes a distinguished example of meritorious public service of a newspaper to its local community reflecting exceptional courage or enterprise.”

Kestin’s Equity Erased series also won third place in the Investigative Reporting category of the online division.
Asheville Watchdog’s managing editor Peter Lewis and reporter Barbara Durr won third place in the online division for News Enterprise Reporting for their series on the sale of Mission Health to HCA Healthcare.
